In 2011 we participated in ‘The Times’ offer of 2 courses for a Fiver: readers of The Times had to collect a certain number of vouchers (cut out from the newspaper), and could then book a meal at a participating venue. The profit margin on this venture was absolutely NIL, but it did mean that we could still attract customers throughout January to March, which, for a country pub / restaurant can be a quiet period. We did our own market research, by collecting vouchers and booking meals at various venues, and we were extremely disappointed by some of the offerings.

Our approach in 2011 was that although there is no profit in ‘2 Courses for a Fiver’ (not if you provide a reasonable meal & good service), we still thought that there were merits in this approach, so that customers who possibly had not heard of the Catherine Wheel, could try us out for minimal costs, and possibly become regular visitors.

The Times have changed their approac for 2012 and are promoting a 'Dining Out' card for their readers – a promotion in which we will not be participating.
With '2 main courses for the price of 1', '2 for 1' offers, 'free champagne', etc. - something has to suffer.….

We believe our menus and pricing are fair to the customer, giving good meals at reasonable prices, all day, every day.
We will continue to offer 2 courses for £6.95 from Monday to Thursday from a special menu. There will be no need to collect vouchers, but prior booking will be essential, and will be limited to a first come / first served basis.
We received extremely positive comments on our ‘2 courses for a fiver’ in 2011 and we do not intend that this will be any less in 2012.

Take Away Pizza
We know that it is difficult to turn-out on cold winter evenings, even when there is a lovely log fire roaring away at the ‘Wheel’, so we will be offering our ‘Pizza Deal’ throughout January and February – 2 fantastic 12” pizzas for just £12.00, or if you prefer a bottle of wine to go, then £20 FOR EVERYTHING sets you up for the evening. Just one problem, this only applies to orders received before 7pm.

Thursday 19th January 2012 - Ale and Food Night.

We will be holding a ticketed‘Ale & Food’ night, sponsored by our Breweries. There will be a special selection of dishes matched with the different ales on offer, givinga unique opportunity to try out different ales and experience matching tastes that you may never have considered, or perhaps never been brave enough to try!

Saturday 21st January Jazz & Blues –
We thoroughly enjoyed the 2 nights that Kingslake Keegan & Gower gave us in October & November 2011, and have been lucky enough to book them on Saturday 21st January – 8.30pm in the Restaurant – early booking is recommended.

We are also looking at a more Rock & Roll Duo – details to be announced
